Welcome to Barb Tews's Wiki Page!
This summer I attended a course on making Wiki pages. My goal is to put helpful information onto these pages for your access: newsletters, upcoming events, interesting information, study guides, etc. Thus, by giving you my Wiki address you and your student will have access to this information.

Organization:external image right10208_2.jpg

I found this to be a beneficial video to get the students centered & focused to begin the school year. Organization is the key to starting out successfully as well as maintaining this success. Being organized is kind of like making sure your shoes are tied at all times: "If both shoes are not tied tightly" there will be constant tripping & stumbling. The students will be viewing these videos in class. To maintain consistency between home & school, your viewing these would also be benficial. If you are unable to get into these links, simply use your child's password to do so.

In order for a student to be able to discover & be motivated to apply methods that work with their learning disabiltiy, it is necessary for them to understand what a learning diability is. Just as someone has asthma, diabetes, migraines.......it is important to understand what is going on and what can be done to "make it better". I teach a unit on this topic in grade 7 reading class. Below is also an excellent resource for parents & students. We will also be reading a humorous book about a boy that has A.D.H.D.

Studies show that music is indeed capable of changing the way the brain waves work, in some cases helping the brain to focus on the particular thing you are attempting to do, the brain does not really listen or tune into the lyrics, but it does listen to the melody and rythme, so if it is calm, your brain and brain waves are calm, meaning you will find it easier to do homework.

It is also proven that calm music can actually have an ever lasting effect on your short term and long term memory, so if your listening to music while studying for a big test or something like that, you will find it asier to retain your information and you will find it easier to read the information or text infront of you.
